Date: 17 October - Sunday 1 November Time: 6-10pm, daily (everyone half hour) What: UQ Bloom festival Location: UQ Lakes, UQ St Lucia campus (access via UQ Lakes bus stop, or via Connel and Thynne road) How to get here: Check out the UQ website to find out how to get to UQ St Lucia campus About 'Flourishing Hope' The inspiration for Taana's composition piece ‘Flourishing Hope’ was her experience at the 2019 BLOOM Festival as well as her interaction with the spectacular interactive audio-visual installations produced by UQ students from the previous years festival. 'The imagery of the beauty of the jacarandas in full lilac splendour', were also of great inspiration when finding the rhythm and movement of the piece for this years event. 'Flourishing Hope' is a blend of electronic and classical music that is comprised of three main movements for everyone to enjoy: The first movement combines a solo cello, flute lead, arpeggiators, and double bass instrumentation to augment the light installation The second movement employs an electronic beat, a grand piano snow synth pad playing pentatonic melodies, double bass and synth bass to add drama and build to the third movement The third movement is orchestrated for a string orchestra, utilising the various timbres of the string family accompanied by a reverberant self-produced beat. Note: This piece was mastered at Studios 301 by Ben Feggans. The face behind the music Taana Rose, (PhD), Opera Composition and Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, School of Music, The University of Queensland Biography Taana is a UQ PhD candidate who holds a masters in music composition and technology. Sound Score: OtheRising composed by Taana Rose & Charulatha Mani.
I did a sound design project for the early access game Devouring Stars.
I composed all the music and recorded, designed and synthesised the sounds heard in this video.
The only sound that I didn't synthesise or record myself is the explosion sound which I downloaded from freesound: https://www.freesound.org/people/ryansnook/sounds/110113/
However I manipulated the free sound explosion recording using different EQs.
I created all the atmos and user interface feedback sounds.
